Basic Tomato Sauce
Ingredients:
- 1 – 28 oz can crushed tomatoes
- 1 – 6 oz can tomato paste
- 1 small to medium onion chopped
- 4 to 6 cloves of garlic minced
- Onion powder
- Garlic powder
- Black pepper
- Oregano
Directions:
- In a large skillet faux sauté the onions in garlic using a small amount of water. Keep adding small amounts of water avoid sticking. Cook until onions are soft and translucent.
- In a large sauce pan combine all ingredients. Stir well so the tomato paste is well dispersed.
- Simmer covered on low heat for 30 to 60 minutes, stirring occasionally
- This makes enough sauce for 1 lb. box of pasta
Variation #1 – I sometimes add 1 – 15.5 oz can of kidney beans to sauce
Variation #2 – Add cooked mushrooms to sauce.
