Whole Food Plant Based – Eight Years and Counting
Well it’s been eight years since I began eating a whole food plant based (WFPB) diet. Last year at this time I blogged the following: “I’ve maintained good health and have had no need to visit a physician during these seven years”.
Well for those of you who have read this earlier article, you know I can’t make the same statement at the eight-year mark. My bout with thyroiditis required a number of MD visits, diagnostic tests and a short time on medication. I’m not totally out of the woods yet, but I’m feeling quite well right now and I no longer need medication.
During my trip to Un-Wellville, I was amazed at my non-existent appetite. For weeks, none of my staple WFPB meals appealed to me at all. It was so freaking weird! Fortunately, as my thyroid hormones leveled off, my appetite came back – almost to the point where it could be described as voracious. I’m happy to say that I’ve regained all of my lost weight. My strength is also almost all the way back. The body’s capability to heal is remarkable – even at age 56.
A few well-wishers have shared that it is likely that my WFPB diet helped me to weather the virus that caused my thyroid to go haywire. I’d like to think this is true, but there is no way to know for sure.
What I do know for sure is that every one of my blood lipid profile measurements since 2012 have been sterling. The measurements give every indication that I’m well-protected from coronary artery disease – our number one killer. So, to paraphrase Dr. Michael Greger, “Since a WFPB Diet is the only diet shown to be able to reverse coronary artery disease, shouldn’t it be our default diet until proven otherwise?”
WFPB will be my default diet until evidence proves otherwise.
Stay Healthy and Strong!
Congratulations Dominic!
Congratulations on the eight-year WFPB milestone, Dom.
