Sir Paul McCartney – Whole Food Vegan

Sir Paul McCartney – Whole Food Vegan

In 2014, I learned that Ringo Starr had been following a plant-based diet for quite some time. This did not surprise me all that much as his ability to move and perform on stage belied his age, which was 73 at the time. I had known that Paul McCartney and his first wife Linda became lacto-ovo vegetarians (includes dairy and eggs) back in the 1970’s, but I had never read about Ringo’s diet.

After Linda’s death from cancer in 1998, I thought it likely that Paul would change to a 100% plant based diet. I realized that wasn’t the case when he was shown eating pizza at a nationally televised sporting event a few years ago.

But an article on the Foods4betterhealth web site reveals that McCartney credits his good health at age 74 to his healthy vegan diet. It seems that his diet is now dominated by fruits, veggies, whole grains, legumes and nuts and seeds.

He and Linda initially became vegetarians for ethical reasons, but now he has decided to eat a whole food vegan diet. People often joke that Ringo had ridden the coattails of the other three Beatles, as McCartney, Lennon and Harrison clearly towered over him as musicians and composers. But perhaps Ringo’s healthy vegan diet inspired Paul to take the next step towards a Whole Food Plant Based Diet. If so, that is payback of a sort.

McCartney has composed many spectacular songs in his career, most in the 1960’s 70’s and 80’s ( in my opinion). However I recently stumbled upon this gem recorded by Diane Krall. This song demonstrates that McCartney still has some home runs left in him.

I’m hoping he decides to write a song describing how he is getting plenty of protein on his plant-based diet. That way, I’ll just send a link to that song every time I’m asked the annoying question, “Where do you get your protein?” People that don’t listen to me, might listen to what this man says.

Who knows what the future will bring, but with a little luck, we’ll be able to work it out and we’ll all be amazed.
